choosing gallery photos with purpose

I am not skimpy with how I fill your gallery - wedding or family session. Many photographers use a gallery to deliver only the best, technically and aesthetically. That sounds pretty self explanatory, right? Agreed. I do that too….but also make sure to give images that may not be THE one you’re printing and putting on your wall, but will be the one you come back to when you feel nostalgic. Or when you want to talk to your kid about how the photo session was to make memories, too!

Take this series, for example. I had the kids hide behind the trees, because I will never make photos about GETTING THE PHOTO. We are always happier when we’re playing! Then they took turns sticking out body parts: are these photos going to make a gallery wall? Unlikely…but for the parents, and the kids, this is hopefully a memory for them, about this shoot. It also served as a transition to get the sister shot that WILL make the gallery wall…

When it comes to weddings, SO MANY photos won’t make the gallery wall, or the album that sits on your coffee table…but that doesn’t mean they’re not worthy of existing. And so SO many moments serve as those transition / in between moments that will be the emotion of your wedding day.
