It’s such a fun time getting to know couples during an engagement session. Truth be told it’s as much a get to know you session as it is make photos for an engagement session. I love the slower pace of meandering around, with the couple trusting me to catch pretty locations to stop and make some images that will serve to show this time in their lives. Talking about the wedding, but mostly just learning about their lives, love, and of course PETS. Enjoy a few from Gina + Ryan’s engagement session at Jorgensen Farms Garden venue. Natural photos, it’s what we all want when we think about how we want to experience a photo session. We want to freeze time in the moments we actually get to experience with our loved ones. Those moments that are etched into our hearts that we spend our days experiencing, but how? How does that translate to doing those things on command with a (let’s face it) stranger with you!?
I think about 80% of people tell me how awkward they are in front of the camera. What I’ve come to find is that is simply…not true! They’ve just not experienced the freedom of being themselves in front of the camera, so it’s always felt a little awkward!
what this means to me is: I am always watching. I’m always on the look out for things that happen without my coaching….and I give you permission to be you. I actively hold space for you to let it go, be into your relationship in front of me, and get the most natural photos we can make.

the off season is the time we photographers do all the things we try to do all year, but - for me - something’s gotta give, and it’s always the blogging and website updating!
and, as it’s Monday, there’s an advent calendar to attend to (anyone else out there scramble to get their activity in each morning before their kids wake up!?), and so I’m going to give this a little update here with some images I’m digging….hope your eyes enjoy this little visual party!

I’ve already shared these a bit over on Instagram, but when I found myself saving 70 photos over a 1.5 hour photo shoot, I think they’re also deserving of a permanent place on my blog.
I can’t really explain what a joy this session was to shoot. It was the perfect amount of direction / taking total creative freedom to do whatever I could….and Cat + Chris were just THE perfect couple for it. They were playful without prompting, and patient with my needing to make sure their photos wouldn’t be purely black! Enjoy! and, as I don’t think I’ve ever said it before: I’m up for anything when it comes to shooting. NOTHING is off limits to ask me if I’m down for - I’ll probably love you forever if you let me have an experience that’s unique, and truly you!
Andrea and Andrew | a spring engagement session
it’s equal parts scary and exciting that this feels like yesterday (why once you pass 30 does time literally fly?). It was one of the first warm days of March, and we’re So Close to being back to spring already. A + A were married in a small ceremony last April + I’ll be with them (for my first time at COSI) this august!
