film is not (ever) dead
Sharing recent film scans from The Darkroom Lab, shot on Kodak portraits 400 35mm film by Jessica love photography in and around near me Columbus Ohio. Venues include Revery, Jorgensen Farms, North 4th Corridor Brick and Mortar. Film is exciting to shoot because it takes talent and observation skills to properly expose for light and conditions.
I love knowing when people find me because they’re diving down an internet rabbit hole of film photography (do we hashtag #film for that?). I’ll always try to incorporate film into my wedding and family shooting - and hopefully some of these recent film scans show you why!
the grain on that one!
summer faves
it’s clearly not summer here, but as soon as wedding season is in full swing, it’s easy to forget SUMMER proper is not until June 20! But, what we have time to share now are some recent favorites from all the beautiful weddings I’ve been a part of! I hope their happiness and comfort shines through!
collecting film favorites from 2024
selected photographer favorites from a year of hybrid wedding photography using film and digital. These images are shot on a Canon 1V or Hassleblad medium format camera.
It’s always one of my favorite things to do in the slower season: Looking back through the year and resharing with fresh eyes + memories about all I got to witness in the previous year. I just really love this job. It’s never lost on me all that I get to be a part of with people who start out as strangers and become buds. Technically I like to slow down, look through all the images that didn’t catch my eye the first time, and figure out how I might be able to crop or adapt them to fit a need I didn’t know I missed. Enjoy some of my favorites, shot on my Canon 1V or Hassleblad medium format camera.
I find that film is something that lots of couples are curious about - is this you? I’d love to chat you through what a wedding day on film (and digital) would look like for you. Wedding day or family session, I love those, too! I have a few more dates I’d love LOVE to fill up this year - let’s chat today if you think that sounds good!
why that consult matters
There are so many factors into choosing wedding vendors. Let’s figure out if we’re a good fit by chatting and then having a complimentary engagement session to see how we work together!
It’s that magical time of year where everyone decides this season needs a little extra magic with an engagement! And, as a wedding vendor, that means I get to hear from a lot of you reaching out with first steps as you tiptoe, or cannonball into the wedding planning machine. I’ll start with reminding you, I hate this machine for you! In my perfect world, every single decision we make is driven by passion and FEELING. I know that isn’t how the world works, exactly. I definitely think you can find a way to do a lot of things like this!
This is where meeting your vendors comes in. There are so many factors that come into play when going through your wedding checklist. We want to dive right in and say Budget Budget Budget…and yes! That matters…but I’d encourage you to start with your heart, and then let the rest fall into line. When you think about what you have as a tangible, keepsake thing from your wedding day I feel very lucky to say it’s the photos that remain. You might feel instantly nostalgic about your dress, your flowers, your cake. But guess what encompasses all of those things, plus the things that REALLY matter (ope, yep, I said it)? It’s the images. My goal is to get you right in the feels with every image that comes in your gallery.
To get to the point of this blog: A phone consult or facetime meet is a really great way to get a feel for how you vibe with a vendor. Specifically, me! There are an endless amount of weddings that happen weekly, yearly, monthly. Every single client that comes my way is not an automatic match. I can get a feel from how you inquire with me if you’re going to like me. If you’re here to tell me how much your family matters to you, and that you’re excited to spend the start of your married life together enjoying it with your partner and friends: YES. Hit that contact me button immediately! If you’re a bit more laid back, but still know that the experience and end result and FEELING matters to you, look around a bit more then go back to that button :)
I like to use an initial meet as a way to get to know each other, and then I always offer an engagement session as a complimentary way to see how we work together, once you’ve secured booking your wedding date with me! It is WAY worth my time and creativity to get to know you, serve you, and get some images into your hands once you decide to choose me to spend your wedding day with you. I want you to be so sure of our connection, and trust in me from the moment you sign your contract!
SO hello! Congrats on your engagement, and if all of this sounds like it would work for you, let’s chat!
planning for 2025 (and an engagement session at Jorgensen)
2025 couples should be about ready to book their wedding photography with local experts like Jessica Love Photography. I am looking to take on a few more clients for 2025, and I hope it’s you.
TLDR: I want to shoot your “off season” wedding, smaller wedding, or elopement…and in order to encourage you to do that, your pricing quote will reflect a heavy discount to book me up!
If you’re just here for the first time, welcome! I’m glad to have you - here’s a little about me in the shortest and SEO friendly blog post I can make about being a photographer in the greater Columbus area! I love LOVE my job. I’ve talked with lots of photographers who’ve started around the same time as me (14 years ago! wow!) that are feeling like they’re ready to transition out of weddings, but I’m here still quite excited about spending days with people starting their married lives together. A large portion of why I love what I do is that I schedule myself to not burn out. I - gasp - get ready for this…take most of the summer weekends OFFFFFF (!!) because more than loving being a photographer, I love being home with my kids during their summer breaks.
so I’m here to say to you: get in touch with me for your wedding photography…whether you’ve viewed my site and info and pricing, and even if you think your budget doesn’t match up. I get that what I do is a luxury, but also I aim to be as accessible to as many people as I can. If you’re getting married on a Sunday, in November, December, January, through March…you’re my people!! let’s do this and get you amazing photos, amazingly served, at a price that works for you!
film favorites - a quick an easy share
Some film favorites shot on Kodak Portra 400, Ektar 100, and Portra 160 on a Canon EOS v and Hasselblad film camera.
one of my favorite blog posts is “here’s a random bunch of favorites from life lately, consume and digest as you will!” And, here’s one of those!! Do you have a favorite of the bunch? Have you started summer shooting?
